My Path to Better Health, Mental Well-Being and Freedom

Hej there!

Welcome to “Not a Superhero“, my personal campaign to transform health and fitness through sheer determination. I’m Björn from Hamburg, a gravel biker, bikepacker, and photographer. This project is a response to my personal health challenges, inspired by the lyrics “And I am not a superhero.” My mission is to improve my health, reduce weight, lower BMI, and promote both heart and mental health. I believe that significant changes don’t require superhuman abilities—just real steps and unwavering determination.

WHY THIS MATTERS

Seventeen years ago, I lost my father in his mid-50s due to heart complications. With my 47th birthday approaching, it’s clear that this wake-up call needs to finally set in. Having faced personal health challenges and witnessing the impact of poor health on my family, I am committed to making a change. My mission is to improve my health, reduce weight, lower BMI, and promote heart and mental health. Significant changes don’t require superhuman abilities—just determination and real action. This project is not just about personal transformation; it’s about inspiring others who face similar challenges to take control of their health.

MY JOURNEY

Regular Cycling

Cycling has always been a passion of mine. I integrate both indoor and outdoor cycling into my routine using training plans from Enduco. This helps me stay active, improve cardiovascular health, and maintain a structured fitness regimen.

Daily Movement

Balancing my sedentary job as a photographer, I aim to incorporate daily walks and fitness exercises to stay active throughout the day. This helps combat the negative effects of prolonged sitting. Overcoming the habit of spending long hours on the computer and watching TV at night isn't easy, but it's necessary for a healthier lifestyle.

Nutrition

Maintaining a balanced vegan diet is crucial. I use the Yazio app to track my nutritional intake, ensuring I get the necessary nutrients for optimal health and performance. My diet focuses on whole foods, plant-based proteins, and balanced macronutrients.

Mental Health

Physical health is deeply connected to mental well-being. Incorporating mindfulness and meditation practices helps manage stress and maintain a positive outlook. These practices are essential for overall health and complement my physical fitness efforts. I plan to use mental health tracking tools to monitor my progress, such as journaling, mindfulness apps like Headspace or Calm.

Technology and Tools:

  • Withings: (Potential Partner) Utilizing Withings scales to track weight and health metrics, including the potential use of the Body Scan scale to monitor heart health.
  • Whoop (Potential Partner/: I have been using Whoop for two years to monitor vital health statistics like sleep, heart rate, recovery, and daily activity. I aim to continue leveraging their insights to adjust my training and lifestyle for optimal results.
  • DJI (Potential Partner): Documenting my journey with DJI video equipment, creating high-quality content that captures my progress, struggles, and victories. Sharing these moments helps build a community of support and inspiration.

Progress and Goals:

  • Milestones: Tracking my weight loss, health improvement, and mental well-being goals with clear milestones, such as every 5 kg weight loss. Celebrating these milestones keeps me motivated and engaged.
  • Progress Updates: Regularly updating metrics and achievements to keep my audience informed and motivated. Transparency in my journey helps build trust and encourages others to join and support the cause.

Overcoming Challenges:
Acknowledging that overcoming old habits and routines is a significant challenge. Transitioning from a sedentary lifestyle dominated by computer work and TV nights to a more active lifestyle requires persistence and commitment.
